Best Wine Bars in Lyon

Updated: May 19, 2023

Lyon is a renowned culinary destination in France, situated between the renowned wine regions of Beaujolais and the Northern Rhône. It's no surprise then that the city has an fantastic wine bar scene!

As a wine expert and chef who lives in Lyon, I often enjoy going out for a glass of wine in the evenings. There are plenty of great places to choose from, here are some of my favorites.

Want to learn all about Lyon and experience the breadth of the culinary capital of France? Join me at my French Wine Retreat here in October 2022!

Lyon's Best Wine Bars

There are so many great wine bars in Lyon that it was tough to decide which ones to feature! I chose these bars to highlight based on a few criteria. Most importantly - good wine! A close second was friendliness. I wouldn't send you to anywhere that isn't run by great people. These are my top choices for Anglophone travellers to Lyon.

Feel at Home at this Lyon Wine Bar

Le Vitis Bar, Lyon 4

This is one of my favorite wine bars in Lyon's Croix-Rousse neighborhood in the 4th arrondissement.

I love it because they feature local wines and have an amazing cheese and charcuterie board with only the best local products.

The owners, Valerie and Bruno, are super nice people, and they always make sure I have a great time!

Call them at +33 6 31 16 63 27 to reserve!

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 6pm to 12:30am at 131 Blvd de la Croix-Rousse, Lyon 69004.

Blend Your Own Wine at this Lyon Wine Bar!

Les Assembleurs, Lyon 3

I can't get enough of Les Assembleurs! The concept is incredible and the execution is gorgeous. This is the only wine bar in France that serves wine exclusively on tap.

They make their own wine all over the country and then create blends to order for the customers that walk through the door of this stunning place.

At lunch they serve up a small menu that is inspired by that day's market, and in the evenings you can expect tapas.

Open Monday through Friday from 8am to midnight, and Saturday from 4pm to midnight. Lunch is Monday to Friday from 12 to 2pm, and dinner is Monday to Saturday from 7 to 9:45pm.

You can find Les Assembleurs at 12 Rue Mazenod, Lyon 69003.

Over One Thousand Different Wines at this Lyon Wine Bar

La Cave Café Terroir

The nextdoor neighbor and little sister of Café Terroir, here you can enjoy small plates from one of the city’s most celebrated chefs, JF Périer-Têtedoi. They have an enormous collection of wine, over 1200 different references!

I love how this wine list has a great selection of affordable Burgundy wines. It's normally hard to find good Burgundy wines at a reasonable price, but this place knows what they're doing. They have wines from the local regions of Burgundy, Beaujolais, and the Northern Rhone. You'll find some great gems among these wines.

My favorite thing about this place is the sexy underground wine cellar where if you're 6 or more you can have a private dinner! Yes please!

La Cave Café Terroir is open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch between 12pm and 2pm and dinner from 6pm to midnight at 5 Rue Montcharmont, 69002 Lyon.

You can reserve by phone at +33 9 52 52 51 38 or online.

Lyon's Coolest Natural Wine Bar

Odessa Comptoir, Lyon 1

One of the most popular places in town, Odessa Comptoir is known for its natural wine and focus on local Beaujolais wines.

Owned and operated (partially) by Americans, you can expect great service in English (and French!) and a fun atmosphere.

The food is small plates designed to pair with the wines, and chef Robert makes his own bread!

Odessa Comptoir is open from Monday through Saturday from 6pm to midnight.

The bar lives at 14 Rue René Leynaud, 69001 Lyon.

Lyon's Organic Only Wine Bar

Le Bar à Vin Bio

Next to the Lyon Opera House, this wine bar only offers organic selections. With over 200 organic wines to choose from, Le Bar à Vin Bio celebrates the wines of our local regions but also features other wines from around France and a few world wines too!

They also have a fabulous wood fired oven which provides the perfect accompaniment, pizza and melty cheesy goodness, to their delicious wines. Also do great charcuterie boards!

Le Bar à Vin Bio can be found at 17 Rue Désirée, 69001 Lyon.

Lyon really does have an amazing food and wine culture! I’ve heard so much about its wine bars but haven’t had the chance to experience them yet. As a chef and wine expert, your recommendations must be spot on. I’d love to hear about your favorites—maybe some hidden gems or places that offer a unique experience! Definitely on my list for the next time I visit. hill climb racing

So glad I found this. We have one full day in Lyon and I would love to hit up the best wine bar for small plates and a glass of Gigondas - our fav wine (and White Blends & White Burgundys). Can you suggest your two favs for us - we will be coming in on a River Cruise - so closer the better...don't mind walking far :). TY
